BVI Post Office to Strengthen its Operations

Postmaster General, Kevin Smith says that the Post Office is “leap-frogging” into the 22nd century to bring the world closer to BVI residents. At the recent launching of the stamp Anniversaries series he disclosed that the Post Office is literally taking the Post out of the shadows and into the sunshine. "The trends in the sector mandate that the Post diversify its portfolio thereby strengthening its operations and providing leverage simultaneously. This means a wider range of products and enhanced quality of services. For the year 2006 and beyond, it’s all about innovation and technological advances. The ground work has already been laid and now the implementation begins. Inquiring minds want to know, “Can we pull it off?” With our dedicated staff and the support of the Ministry of Finance, Minister of Finance and the Government, we are confident that we will succeed," Smith said.

According to Smith, the BVI Post Office is heading in a completely new direction: "It’s simply not the same old post. We have adopted a new logo that captures our vision and drive…global services and global expansion. Behind the scenes, we have already been working tirelessly to strengthen our core business. We continue to resolve both local and international issues, which we intend to publicize later this year."

Deputy Financial Secretary (DFS), and Chairperson of the ceremony, Mr. Neil Smith said that the Post Office is aggressively moving towards introducing new products and services. In fact, Mr. Smith pointed that the Post Office is on a swift move to introduce new products, services and to become more business savvy and effective. He said that "postal service is a complex interrelationship of trade and logistics at the global level, and effective asset management at the regional and local levels."

The DFS disclosed that the authorities understand that there are deficiencies in the local service and are resolved to assist the Post Office to effectively manage and promote itself in the future.
